So many things going on! To celebrate my Nod to Mod fabric line that’s launching to vendors this month (and in retail stores in July 2015), I’ll be making fun stuff with my fabric!!!
Here’s a tutorial for all you non-sewers out there like me! I decorated a plain paper lampshade! All you need are:
-Modge Podge (or other adhesive)
-Brush
-Fabric scraps
-Scissors
-Paper Lampshade
Step 1: Cut out a bunch of scallop shapes like I did here. If you are a person who likes to make everything just so and are really neat and tidy, you could use a circle template to cut circles out of your fabric scraps, and then cut those circles in half to get perfectly shaped scallops. I, as you know, am more of a messy, not so tidy person, so I just eyeballed it. I made these scallops fairly large (about 1 1/2" wide) because I didn’t want to have to glue a thousand little pieces onto the shade.
Step 2: Start at the BOTTOM of your lampshade. Trim a rectangular piece of fabric and glue it all the way around the bottom edge. This makes sure there isn’t any of the paper background showing through on your first row of scallops.
Step 3: Start gluing down your scallops, overlapping them and staggering them like you would if you were laying out bricks. As you can see, I might’ve gone overboard with the glue, but the great thing about Modge Podge is that is dries clear.
Step 4: When you get close to the last row at the top, glue another rectangular piece of fabric around the top edge of your paper lampshade. Then, continue gluing your final row of scallops around the entire last tier of the shade.
Step 5: Let dry completely.
Step 6: Plug in your lamp and say, “Wow!” The fabric casts a magical glow when it’s illuminated! Enjoy!
(PS-I’m still doing my daily Art Everyday Project for 2015 #JANART2015, but I decided to post my new pieces of art on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter only, so follow along there! Thanks bunches!)
