it’s summer—june to be exact—when there are a string of sunny days, interspersed with the occasional hawaiian “liquid sunshine” (blue, sunny skies with rain). this indecisive weather is what results in so many rainbows here in our island state.
i like to think that if the sometimes wacky weather can result in something so beautiful, so will my wacky oh-so-spastic attempts at making art. (result in something beautiful, i mean.) this last year or so has been really, really difficult...do you remember i began painting my girls last summer...it was my first try at mixed-media art. one year later, here i am feeling very much that i haven’t moved an inch, and at the same time knowing that i am learning so much.
just this week, a few thoughts have come together in my mind to make a cohesive thought (imagine!). mainly, that i am a beginner, and this will take some time, probably a long time and a lot longer than i really want it to take—this becoming and learning to be an artist. i am also learning that several things really help me moving forward; believing mirrors, encouragement, structure of my work days, a production schedule and accountability.

maybe there are rainbows in my future!
