ves·sel noun \ˈve-səl\
1 a: a container (as a cask, bottle, kettle, cup, or bowl) for holding something b: a person into whom some quality (as grace) is infused <a child of light, a true vessel of the Lord — H. J. Laski>
i am taking a break from my paintings and collages and have begun making these plaster bowls, vessels, if you will. the image of them have been gestating for, hmmmm...the last 5 months or so, and yesterday they finally wanted to be born.
in the recent past i have fought this urge—this compulsion almost—to create the things i envision. i think i am finally done with the fighting. it feels good to give up and surrender to the things i love, the way i naturally love to work, to give in to love. it is a scary thing to do, this falling in love. it is a declaration to the world saying, “this world, is who i am. this is really what i feel and how i see things. this is what i think is beautiful and meaningful and true. this is what i love.”
roger housden in his book “ten poems to set you free” says:
“the most durable from of integrity, whyte says [quoting a poet], requires more than naming your deepset feelings and standing by them. it requires falling headlong into the desire that lies in your heart of hearts, whatever name you give it. if you can melt into that fire, your days will be shot through with a fierce heat of living, no matter how small or mundane your outer activities may seem.”

when i revamp hazelnut cottage into a boutique this fall/winter 2011,i will be offering these, and many more yummies for sale.“what else do you have up your sleeve?” you may be asking...and the answer is whatever i allow myself to fall “headlong into the desire that lies in [my] heart of heart..”
