“To be an artist you must learn to let yourself be. Stop getting better. Start appreciating what you are. Do something that simply delights you for no apparent reason…sometimes we get a lot further inour art and in ourlives when we let ourselves do a little of what comes easily and naturally, If you like to draw horses, stop drawing chairs.” ~Julia Cameron, Walking in this World
My artgroup rocks. They are my TRIBE. We meet weekly, six of us, writers, musicians, jewelry designers, painters, film people...we gather together, huddled in our little circle and pour through Julia Cameron’s, Walking in this World and we pray and eat and talk, listen, eat and dream, heal and wish and hope together. They are my umbrella in the storm.
And partly because of this group and the writings of Julia Cameron, I am feeling freer and freer to paint and share my children with you all. What’s the use in fighting it? I have visions and visions of these children in my heart, so let them be, I say!
Perhaps one day these original paintings will be for sale in my Etsy shop. Or maybe artistic prints. I have the idea noodling around in my head that I could also add some textural elements to these paintings and create mixed media collage art with these children. We’ll see!
Please meet the newest members of my family, Ms. Emily's brothers and sister:
First, there is Seth. He is 5 years old. He is a kindergartner by day, superhero by night. He loves to wear pajamas because they make him feel all cozy and snuggly. Seth’s buttons are the colors of mac and cheese, his favorite meal and blue is his favorite color for today.
Next, meet Andy. Andy is seven. He did not photograph well and appears a bit unwell, but in person, he is fine...just muted in tone. His mother gave him his haircut (can you tell?) and nothing, but nothing keeps his cowlick from sticking up, so he has learned to live with it. He is in the second grade, but is still attached to his blanket…shhh…no one at school knows!
And last but certainly not least, is Anna. She is the oldest of the bunch (I wonder why the girls are older than the boys? ;) at nine years old. She loves the winter because she can wear her favorite soft, fuzzy red socks. She also loves to drink hot cocoa with extra whipped cream. She loves bright colors and is a bold and silly. She takes very good care of her younger siblings.
:) Thank you for meeting my newest children today! Please stop by and offer a kind “Hello!”, they will be very happy you did!
